Founded in 1970, Lake Malawi Sailing Club has grown from a small group of sailing enthusiasts to one of the premier sailing destinations in Africa. Here's our journey:
Founded by a group of 12 sailing enthusiasts who wanted to create a community for sailors on Lake Malawi. The first clubhouse was a simple wooden structure near Cape Maclear.
Hosted our first annual regatta with participants from across Malawi and neighboring countries. This event has grown to become the Lake Malawi Sailing Challenge.
Constructed our current clubhouse facility with expanded docks, boat storage, and member amenities. The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Malawi.
Established our youth sailing program to teach the next generation of Malawian sailors. Over 500 children have graduated from our program to date.
Celebrated 50 years of sailing excellence with special events throughout the year. Our membership had grown to over 800 active sailors from 25 countries.
To foster a love of sailing and make it accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds in Malawi and beyond.
To be stewards of Lake Malawi's pristine waters through conservation efforts and sustainable practices.
To create a welcoming community where sailors can connect, learn, and share their passion for the sport.
