Events & Competitions
The vibrant lakeside village of Chembe is alive with excitement today as the Lake Malawi Sailing Marathon 2025 officially launches at Eagles Nest. Participants from across the region check in their boats, meet fellow sailors, and prepare for one of Africa’s most unique endurance sailing events.
From 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, registration and boat inspections take place, ensuring every vessel meets the race’s safety and performance standards. The opening ceremony, held at the same venue, welcomes all teams, volunteers, and supporters with uplifting remarks from organizers and sponsors.
At 2:00 PM, attention shifts to Eagles Nest Beach, where a mandatory Safety Briefing takes place. Organizers review race rules, navigation safety, and emergency protocols that will guide teams over the next eight days on the lake.
The day closes on a high note with a Welcome Dinner at the Eagles Nest Restaurant starting at 7:00 PM. Sailors share stories, build camaraderie, and toast to the journey ahead over warm meals and good company.
“The atmosphere is electric. You can feel the excitement in every conversation. This is more than a race — it’s a sailing celebration,” shares a participant from Blantyre.
Tomorrow, the first leg of the sailing marathon begins as competitors head from Chembe to Salima, navigating the expansive waters of Lake Malawi in pursuit of endurance, speed, and adventure.
