Calm Waters and Tows Continue as the Marathon Progresses
Dwangwa – Likoma Island | 6 August 2025 Day 5 of the Lake Malawi Sailing Marathon 2025 follows a now-familiar rhythm — a hopeful launch met with calm lake conditions and quiet sails. The day’s leg from Dwangwa to Likoma Island began early, but once again, the wind failed to show up, halting natural sailing progress. “It was a good start today from Dwangwa Beach but ended up with no wind and a tow into Mango Drift on Likoma Island,” shared Claire, who has been documenting the event through photos and video. As the wind dropped, event support crews stepped in, towing the boats across the glassy surface of Lake Malawi. Though the sailing may be paused, the beauty of the lake and the spirit of the sailors shine through each day. Laughter, music, and shared meals continue to define the atmosphere. Sailors arrived at Mango Drift on Likoma Island in the afternoon, greeted with the familiar friendliness of the island and a chance to rest, recharge, and reflect on the journey so far. While many are eager for the wind to return, the experience of crossing Lake Malawi no matter the means continues to unite everyone taking part in this unique adventure.
